Casual Business Portraits

I tried the old fashioned studio portraits for quite a few years. You know, the ones with the standard lighting, the standard pose and the big lit back drop (pick your color to match the suit). But without having availability of a set-up and ready-to-go studio, I had to work twice as much for a twice as boring end product. I was sharing studio and work space with an artist at the time which meant that for each shoot I had to set up the backdrop and lights, then break them all down again 20 minutes later.

Finally, when I made the change to have a home office, I gained the luxury of being able to say No to quick studio business portraits. And although I can’t tend to the needs of the realtor or dentist that wants that classic staged look for their company website, I can definitely take care of the fun casual business man or woman.

These are quick and custom and I use all natural light. Instead of a cookie cutter staged portrait, I’m having a lot of fun with location around the town and my clients love them.

Tommy Boy

This is Tommy, our little foster dog. The Humane Society oftens needs foster homes for dogs that are ill, overly timid or that need socializing. Tommy has some “fear issues” and needs socializing So we are trying to help. His adorable face makes me weak and it is going to be a sad day when I have to give him to his forever home.

Update: Well, he has stayed longer than we had planned due to an awful bout with a doggie cold. Tommy is completely recovered however and is ready for adoption. Here is some info about him…

He is 10 months old and weighs about 10 pounds. He has a lot of spunk but is by no means a crazy minded guy. He has manners and learns the rules of the house quickly. He loves toys, and will entertain himself for hours just tossing his stuffed animals and kongs around the house. Although a little nosey and playful, he gets along well with our cat and he adores our dog. He is very loving and is probably the only terrier I know that does not play bite too hard. Walks are a breeze and he is a true gentleman on the leash. He is really an awesome little guy!

Sisters Daisy

Two pretty sisters and a delightful Westie named Daisy found there way into the heart of my camera recently. Another of my favorites in life is the bark of a beautiful oak tree and we managed to have plenty of fun including it in our shots.

Bow Wow Greetings 2011

The Bow Wow Event was launched three years ago as a way for my company to raise money for the ABC Angel Fund of Martin County, a non-profit organization that helps owners and their pets with medical needs. In my 20 year career of caring for animals, I have witnessed the depths of the human-animal bond, the devastation of financial hardships and the painful decision that a pet owner must sometimes make when their beloved companion becomes sick or injured. And along with this, I witnessed the Angel Fund aiding as best as it could to help.

Each year, a date is set in early November to hold a pet portrait marathon day. Dog owners call to reserve a 15 minute time slot for their canine friend. The photos are culled and professionally enhanced, then placed into an exclusive Bow Wow card, complete with the personal message. I design a new fun theme each year (this year was “KISS the Season”) making the photo and the card design a matching masterpiece. No flimsy photo paper is used. These cards are very high quality, classy and stylish.

It’s a lot of hard work, but the final product is fresh fun for those who love to include their companion in spreading holiday cheer.

Buddy is the dear yellow lab of my friends Susan and Richard. He is 10 years old, is a diabetic and is absolutely THE most sweetest dog I have ever met. I love Buddy and am lucky to get to baby sit when his parents go out of town. I recently had the joy of taking care of him last week and managed to take a little extra time to photograph him.

Who would have thought that I would ever be learning about golf? Certainly not me. But when a high end golf bag manufacturer, QODA Golf, wanted images for their new website, I was all ears. The shoot took place at Indian River Country Club where our model Joe, patiently tolerated our creative direction. QODA wanted images with deep muted colors and strong lines while capturing the golf lifestyle. We got out on the green bright and early to get some beautiful light and by 9:00 a.m. we were feeling the heat and the strong sun.
